Abstract

|
The National Immunization Program is the most cost-benefit effective policy for the control of vaccine preventable disease.
In Korea, the complete immunization coverage of three-year-old children is 85.8%. The government hopes to raise the immunization coverage to over 95% by reducing the burden of immunization.
In this report, We describe the background, status, and result of the School Entry Requirement Program in 2016.
The School Entry Requirement Program verified whether, children received or did not receive the four types of booster vaccinations for children aged 4 to 6, every year, from March to June.
The immunization registry system of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is linked with the school entry information system of the Ministry of Education. The immunization verification includes: the fifth dose of DTaP, the fourth dose of polio, the second dose of MMR, and the fourth dose of inactivated Japanese encephalitis vaccine or second dose of live attenuated vaccine.
The number of school entry in 2016 was 435,886 and the complete immunization coverage of the four vaccines was 88.7%. Immunization coverage for each vaccine were as follows: 5th DTaP was 97.1%; 4th polio was 98.4%; 2nd MMR was 98.4%; and the 2nd JE(live attenuated) or 3rd JE(inactivated) was 89.5%.
The registry rate of individual¡¯s immunization records improved from 56.4% in December 2015 to 87.0% in July 2016.
